History:
Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1973. The agency’s mission at that time was to provide alternative recreation activities for the youth of Perry County. That remained the agency’s primary goal throughout the early 1980s. The state of Ohio began making funding available for treatment services in the early to mid- 1980s through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Health. The agency applied for and received funds for treatment services during this same time period and established an outpatient treatment program. In 1989, the agency moved to its current location on Main Street in New Lexington, Ohio.

In 1995, the agency was awarded a federal grant to open a residential treatment program for adult women. Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. named this program, Stanton Villa, after Elizabeth Cady Stanton who fought for women’s suffrage and was an early leader in the women’s right movement. Stanton Villa has a ten-bed capacity and has a thirty-day or longer length of stay.

In 1996, Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. and six other agencies joined together to form Behavioral Health Choices, Inc., a network of providers built on the principal that a group of organizations working together for a common cause can accomplish more for each individual organization than one organization functioning alone. Organizations belonging to Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. are committed to expanding addiction and mental health services to the residents of Perry, Muskingum, Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan, and Noble Counties.

In 2014, a grant was made available to Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. that allowed for the purchase of a main street property that became Sobriety Village Women’s Recovery Housing. Sobriety Village Recovery Housing offers four large bedrooms and two apartments for six recovery-minded women and their children from the six-county service area.

In 2016, PBHC’s services expanded with the opening of Evolution Men’s Residential Treatment Program. Inspired by the success and need of Stanton Villa, Evolution was opened as a response to the growing need of residential treatment for men. Evolution has a ten-bed capacity and has a thirty-day or longer length of stay. This same year, PBHC opened Eclipse Men’s Recovery Housing. Eclipse provides housing for six male residents from the six-county service area. Also in 2016, Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. recognized a need for Medication Assisted Therapy as an addition to traditional treatment options, and opened the PBHC Clinic.

In 2017, PBHC opened the Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. Activity Center. The activity center is a 10,000 square-feet facility that serves as a gathering place for the community to participate in healthy activities and events. Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. has opened the doors of the activity center to other agencies and organizations in the community as well. Also in 2017, PBHC added a Youth and Family Services division. This was the same year the agency was certified to offer Mental Health Treatment. Youth and Family Services offers many services for youth and their families including: individual and group therapy, intensive in home or school services, case management, treatment focused visitation sessions, parent skills building, education, and modeling.

In 2018, due to being awarded another capital grant, Perry Behavioral Health Choices, Inc. opened ClearView Withdrawal Management. ClearView provides substance abuse withdrawal management for adults, 18 years of age and older. ClearView has trained and certified medical staff available 24 hours a day. Services offered include: physician services, nursing services, therapy, and case management services.
